February 6th, 2024:
A Michigan man followed a woman into her home, attempted to rape her, and threatened to kill her.
Police immediately responded to the home where the suspect was found brandishing a knife.
K9 Sledge was deployed by his handler to subdue the suspect but was stabbed multiple times in the throat. K9 Sledge was losing lots of blood, and fast. His handler and other law enforcement officers quickly coordinated the closure of roads along the emergency route and notified medical personnel. On the way to the animal hospital Sledge's handler attempted to keep him calm while also applying pressure to slow the bleeding.
Once at the animal hospital medical personnel performed lifesaving treatment. Despite having 40% blood loss, Sledge walked out of the hospital on all four paws.
